Minor relation

Not on the majority Thai list, your animal has a secondary relation with the year in Chinese almanacs: some articles mention it.

  • Harm (ทำร้าย)The harm relation: the tradition links it with misunderstandings with people around you and words taken the wrong way.

What the tradition suggests

Most Thai temples do not count you among the pi chong signs this year. If it matters to you, nothing stops you from praying at a temple, with no urgency.

The clash types explained

Two readings overlap: the Thai list (full clash, shared clash), which sets the level, and the classical relations of Chinese almanacs, which explain it.

Clash (ปะทะ)

The two animals face each other on the wheel, six places apart. This relation defines full clash: according to the tradition, changes and friction are more likely.

Your own animal's year (ชงตัวเอง)

The year returns to your own animal, every twelve years (本命年). Chinese tradition sees it as an unsettled year in which you sit facing Tai Sui; it counts among the shared clashes.

Right angle on the wheel

Your animal is three places from the year's animal, in the same square of branches. This is the criterion of the majority Thai list for shared clash.

Punishment (ลงโทษ)

The almanacs' punishment relation: the tradition links it with red tape, disputes and misunderstandings.

Dragon, Horse, Rooster and Pig punish themselves: in their own animal's year, the tradition advises them not to make things harder for themselves.

Harm (ทำร้าย)

The harm relation: the tradition links it with misunderstandings with people around you and words taken the wrong way.

Break (ทำลาย)

The break relation: the tradition links it with projects falling apart and plans changing along the way.

Majority Thai list (media and temples), explained with the classical 冲 刑 害 破 relations of Chinese almanacs.

Kae chong: what the tradition does

Kae chong means praying to the Tai Sui of the year (one of the 60 deities of the cycle, one per year) at a Chinese temple or shrine. Here is the most common sequence, as Thai temples and media describe it; every temple has its own habits.

When

The busiest period starts at Chinese New Year, on 17 February 2026. Some temples welcome visitors from January, and you can go later in the year: there is no single deadline.

Common offerings

  • Auspicious oranges (ส้มมงคล)
  • Lamp oil
  • Gold and silver paper (กระดาษเงินกระดาษทอง)
  • A ใบฝากดวง form in your name

Most temples sell a ready-made set.

The usual sequence

  1. Buy the offering set and the form (ใบฝากดวง) at the temple; write your name, age and birth date on it.
  2. Light incense and candles, greet the deities in the order the temple shows, then pray to the Tai Sui of the year.
  3. At some temples, sweep the gold and silver paper over yourself, from head to toe.
  4. Leave the form and papers where the temple indicates; the temple burns them as part of its ritual.

Other practices people mention

  • Making merit: donations, releasing animals, giving blood.
  • Visiting nine temples (ไหว้พระ 9 วัด) in one day.
  • Wearing red, a protective colour in Chinese tradition.
  • For someone in full clash who must attend a funeral, carrying pomegranate leaves (ใบทับทิม), a popular custom.

These practices are matters of belief, with no proven effect. They do not replace medical, legal or financial advice: if you have a health concern, see a professional.
