The clash types explained
Two readings overlap: the Thai list (full clash, shared clash), which sets the level, and the classical relations of Chinese almanacs, which explain it.
Clash (ปะทะ)
The two animals face each other on the wheel, six places apart. This relation defines full clash: according to the tradition, changes and friction are more likely.
Your own animal's year (ชงตัวเอง)
The year returns to your own animal, every twelve years (本命年). Chinese tradition sees it as an unsettled year in which you sit facing Tai Sui; it counts among the shared clashes.
Right angle on the wheel
Your animal is three places from the year's animal, in the same square of branches. This is the criterion of the majority Thai list for shared clash.
Punishment (ลงโทษ)
The almanacs' punishment relation: the tradition links it with red tape, disputes and misunderstandings.
Dragon, Horse, Rooster and Pig punish themselves: in their own animal's year, the tradition advises them not to make things harder for themselves.
Harm (ทำร้าย)
The harm relation: the tradition links it with misunderstandings with people around you and words taken the wrong way.
Break (ทำลาย)
The break relation: the tradition links it with projects falling apart and plans changing along the way.
Majority Thai list (media and temples), explained with the classical 冲 刑 害 破 relations of Chinese almanacs.
Kae chong: what the tradition does
Kae chong means praying to the Tai Sui of the year (one of the 60 deities of the cycle, one per year) at a Chinese temple or shrine. Here is the most common sequence, as Thai temples and media describe it; every temple has its own habits.
When
The busiest period starts at Chinese New Year, on 17 February 2026. Some temples welcome visitors from January, and you can go later in the year: there is no single deadline.
Common offerings
- Auspicious oranges (ส้มมงคล)
- Lamp oil
- Gold and silver paper (กระดาษเงินกระดาษทอง)
- A ใบฝากดวง form in your name
Most temples sell a ready-made set.
The usual sequence
- Buy the offering set and the form (ใบฝากดวง) at the temple; write your name, age and birth date on it.
- Light incense and candles, greet the deities in the order the temple shows, then pray to the Tai Sui of the year.
- At some temples, sweep the gold and silver paper over yourself, from head to toe.
- Leave the form and papers where the temple indicates; the temple burns them as part of its ritual.
Other practices people mention
- Making merit: donations, releasing animals, giving blood.
- Visiting nine temples (ไหว้พระ 9 วัด) in one day.
- Wearing red, a protective colour in Chinese tradition.
- For someone in full clash who must attend a funeral, carrying pomegranate leaves (ใบทับทิม), a popular custom.
These practices are matters of belief, with no proven effect. They do not replace medical, legal or financial advice: if you have a health concern, see a professional.

Pi Chong (Tai Sui) clash year checker
How it works
Pi chong comes from the Chinese belief in Tai Sui (太岁, ไท้ส่วยเอี๊ย), the deity who presides over each year of the sixty-year cycle. Every year carries one of twelve animals (the earthly branches). According to the tradition, people whose birth animal is in tension with the year's animal offend Tai Sui (犯太岁): they are advised to be more careful and often to perform a temple ritual known in Thailand as kae chong (แก้ชง).
The year does not start on 1 January but at Chinese New Year, between 21 January and 20 February. The tool computes that date from the new moon (Beijing time), like the rest of the site: for 2026 (BE 2569) Chinese New Year falls on 17 February. Someone born in January or early February often belongs to the previous year's animal; if you only enter a year, the tool shows you both possibilities.
Sources do not all agree, and the tool says so. The list used by most Thai media and temples (for example Krungsri Plearn Plearn and Wongnai for 2569, Thairath for the Goat year 2558) follows a simple rule: the animal directly opposite on the wheel, six places away, is in full clash (ชงเต็ม); the year's own animal and the two animals at right angles, three places either side, are in shared clash (ชงร่วม). Those four animals form one square of branches (Rat, Rabbit, Horse, Rooster; Ox, Dragon, Goat, Dog; Tiger, Snake, Monkey, Pig). This is the main level the tool shows in colour.
Chinese almanacs (通书, Tong Shu) add five relations between branches: clash 冲 (ปะทะ), the year of your own animal 值太岁 (ชงตัวเอง), punishment 刑 (ลงโทษ), harm 害 (ทำร้าย) and break 破 (ทำลาย). These tables are fixed: punishment links Tiger, Snake and Monkey, then Ox, Dog and Goat, then Rat and Rabbit, while Dragon, Horse, Rooster and Pig punish themselves. When an animal is touched only by one of these relations and is not on the Thai list (the Ox in 2026, through its harm relation with the Horse), the tool marks it as a minor relation: that is why some articles add it and others do not.
For kae chong, the tool sums up the practices described by Thai temples and media: the busiest period is right after Chinese New Year, temples usually sell a ready-made offering set (auspicious oranges, lamp oil, gold and silver paper, and a form where you write your name and birth date), and you pray to the Tai Sui of the year. The temples listed are the ones Thai media recommend most often; check their opening hours with them before you go.
This is a cultural belief, not science: no study links a birth animal to what happens during a year. If pi chong nudges you to slow down, drive carefully or think twice before a big purchase, that is a good habit anyway. For any health concern, see a professional; for an important financial decision, a qualified adviser.
These tools give general information. They do not replace the advice of a doctor or a qualified professional.

- Which zodiac signs are pi chong in 2026 (2569)?
- 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse, from 17 February 2026 to 5 February 2027. According to the majority Thai list, the Rat is in full clash (ชงเต็ม), and the Horse, Rabbit and Rooster are in shared clash (ชงร่วม). Chinese tables add a minor harm relation (害) for the Ox, which some articles also mention.
- What is the difference between full clash and shared clash?
- Full clash (ชงเต็ม or ชงตรง) concerns the animal exactly opposite the year's animal on the wheel: according to the tradition, the strongest clash. Shared clash (ชงร่วม) covers the year's own animal and the two animals at right angles: the tradition sees a lighter tension. Some media give percentages (100%, 50% and so on), but they vary from one source to another.
- I was born in January or early February. Which animal am I?
- The animal changes at Chinese New Year, not on 1 January. If you were born before Chinese New Year of your birth year, you belong to the previous year's animal. Enter your full birth date: the tool works out the Chinese New Year date of that year and takes it into account.
- When should I do kae chong?
- According to the tradition followed by Thai temples and media, the busiest period is right after Chinese New Year (from 17 February 2026 for 2569). Some temples welcome visitors from the start of the calendar year, and many people go later, when they have time: ask the temple you plan to visit.
- Where can I do kae chong in Bangkok?
- The places Thai media mention most are Wat Mangkon Kamalawat (Wat Leng Noei Yi) in Yaowarat, Wat Leng Noei Yi 2 in Bang Bua Thong (Nonthaburi), Wat Thippayawari Wihan near Ban Mo, Wat Pho Maen Khunaram in Yan Nawa and the Chao Pho Suea shrine in Phra Nakhon. Many Chinese shrines in the provinces offer the ritual too.
- What does tradition advise during a pi chong year?
- According to the belief, people are advised to be careful: think before big decisions, avoid conflicts, make merit (donations, releasing animals, giving blood) and pray to Tai Sui at a temple. These are cultural practices with no proven effect; they do not replace medical or financial advice.
- Which signs will be pi chong in 2027 and 2028?
- In 2027 (BE 2570, Year of the Goat from 6 February 2027), the Ox is in full clash; the Goat, Dragon and Dog are in shared clash. In 2028 (BE 2571, Year of the Monkey from 26 January 2028), the Tiger is in full clash; the Monkey, Snake and Pig are in shared clash. The tool's timeline shows the three years side by side.
