Human Design combines astrology, the I Ching and the chakras into a “map” of how you work. Enter your date, time and time zone of birth: the calculation happens here, without sending your data anywhere.

The time matters: the Moon changes gate about every 11 hours and line every 2 hours; the Sun changes line every 23 hours. Without an exact time, the type or profile may differ. Positions are computed to about one degree (the Moon's line stays indicative).

How it works

  1. Human Design was formulated in 1987 by Ra Uru Hu (Alan Krakower). It lays the planets' positions at birth over a wheel of 64 “gates” drawn from the I Ching hexagrams, linked by 36 channels and grouped into 9 centres inspired by the chakras. The result, the bodygraph, is read as a map of how energy flows, or does not, in a person.

  2. Two calculations are made: the “personality”, at the planetary positions of birth (what you are conscious of), and the “design”, 88 degrees of Sun earlier, about 88 days before (the unconscious, the body). Thirteen bodies are used: Sun, Earth, Moon, lunar nodes, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. Each position falls in a gate and in one of that gate's six lines.

  3. When both gates of a channel are activated, the channel is defined and colours the two centres it connects. The type follows from that drawing: Reflector if no centre is defined, Generator if the sacral is (Manifesting Generator when a motor also reaches the throat), Manifestor if a motor reaches the throat without a sacral, Projector otherwise. Authority follows a fixed hierarchy: solar plexus, sacral, spleen, heart, G, then mental or lunar.

  4. The profile pairs the line of the personality Sun with that of the design Sun (for example 5/1); the incarnation cross gathers the Sun and Earth gates of both calculations. Positions are computed here with simplified astronomical formulas (accuracy of about one degree): a planet at the edge of a gate can tip over, so the exact time of birth matters.

  5. Human Design is not a science: no study has validated its claims. Many people nevertheless find in it a useful vocabulary for talking about their energy, decisions and relationships. Take it as a mirror and an experiment to test in your life, not as a truth.

Frequently asked questions

What if I do not know my time of birth?
Try several times of day: if type, authority and profile do not change, your reading is stable. If they change, only a birth certificate or health record will settle it.
Why 88 days before birth?
It is the system's convention: the “design” is taken when the Sun was 88 degrees earlier on the ecliptic, which is about 88 days. The system sees in it the imprint of the body, before consciousness.
My result differs from another site.
Check the time zone of birth first (daylight saving included). Then, this calculation uses simplified astronomical formulas: a planet within a degree of a gate boundary can fall on the other side. For a professional reading, a precision ephemeris is used.
Which is the rarest type?
The Reflector, about 1% of people, with no defined centre. Generators and Manifesting Generators together make up about 70% of the population.
