Lucky House Number

Before signing a lease or buying, many Thais look at the number of the home. Type a house number (99/123, 45/6 หมู่ 3), a condo room or an office number: the tool adds up the digits the way Thai websites do, explains the sum, reads it with your birth day and a few feng shui points, then compares up to four addresses side by side.

Lucky House Number

How it works

  1. Every source we read uses the same method (Sanook, KTC, Chubb, Thairath, Wongnai, Ennxo): add all the digits of the number, including those after the slash, then add the digits of the total until a single digit remains. 99/123 gives 9+9+1+2+3 = 24, then 2+4 = 6. The หมู่ (village number) and the ซอย (lane) are not part of the house number, so the tool leaves them out, along with building letters (A-1204).

  2. Each sum from 1 to 9 is linked to a body in Thai astrology (1 the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Mars, 4 Mercury, 5 Jupiter, 6 Venus, 7 Saturn, 8 Rahu, 9 Ketu). Articles do not always agree: 6 is favourable for four of them but discouraged by Thairath, and 8 is highly rated except by Chubb. For every sum, the tool shows how six sources judge it and keeps the majority view. The result: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 lean favourable, 3 is mixed, and 7 is most often seen as difficult.

  3. Thairath recommends reading the sum together with the occupant's birth day. The tool applies the ทักษา, the same wheel used for phone numbers: starting from the planet of your day, the sum lands on one of your roles, บริวาร (people around you), อายุ (health), เดช (power), ศรี (prosperity), มูละ (assets), อุตสาหะ (effort), มนตรี (support) or กาลกิณี, the digit to avoid. That is why a sum of 6 is discouraged for people born on a Sunday, as Thairath notes. Born on a Wednesday between 6 pm and 6 am, you count as "Wednesday night"; before 6 am, tradition counts the previous day.

  4. Two extra readings weigh less in the score. First, pairs of neighbouring digits, which some sites such as Ennxo also look at for houses: the tool reads them with the Thai numerology pair table (the one used for phone numbers), without crossing the slash. Second, the Sino-Thai belief about digits themselves: 4 sounds almost like "death" in Chinese and many families avoid it, as well as 14; 8 suggests prosperity, 9 lasting things, 6 a smooth flow. For a condo, the floor is checked too, since some buildings skip floors 4, 13 or 14.

  5. The feng shui points are the ones given in mainstream Thai articles: a front door that does not face a staircase or a neighbour's door (Sanook), nor the toilet (Kasikornbank); no road running straight at the house; no beam over the door or the bed; a house no lower than the road (KTC); a clean, bright entrance, a rectangular plan and good airflow (KTC, Krungsri). As for orientation, KTC prefers a north-facing front; in Thailand a west-facing front also gets the hottest afternoon sun, which really matters for comfort.

  6. The score out of 100 combines the sum (the main part), the pairs, the belief about digits, your ทักษา and, if you tick any points, feng shui. The gauges for each area (money, work, family, health, peace of mind) add up the effects of each element. It is a clear way to summarise a popular belief, not a prediction: a good home is chosen first on safety, price, light and commute. Everything is calculated on your device and nothing is sent.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the sum of a house number?
Add all the digits of the number on both sides of the slash, then add the digits of the result until only one is left. Example: 583/56 gives 5+8+3+5+6 = 27, then 2+7 = 9. The หมู่ and the ซอย are not counted.
Which house number sum is the luckiest?
According to most Thai sources, the sums 9 (protection, progress), 2 (a harmonious home), 6 (love, family), 8 (prosperity), 5, 4 and 1 are favourable. 3 is mixed and 7 is most often seen as difficult. The best sum also depends on your birth day: avoid your kalakini digit.
Is the number 4 unlucky in a house number?
It depends on the tradition. In Thai numerology, a sum of 4 (Mercury) is rather favourable: intelligence, trade, good speech. In Chinese tradition, which is strong among Sino-Thais, 4 sounds almost like "death" and many people avoid it, especially at the end of a number or as a floor. The tool shows both readings separately.
How do I read a condo room number?
Add the digits of the room in the same way: 1204 gives 1+2+0+4 = 7. Note that a condo unit often has two numbers: the room number and the unit's registered บ้านเลขที่ (for example 88/123). Many people check both: add them as two homes to compare them.
Which digit should I avoid for my birth day?
It is your kalakini (กาลกิณี) digit in the ทักษา: 6 for Sunday, 1 for Monday, 2 for Tuesday, 3 for Wednesday (daytime), 5 for Wednesday night, 7 for Thursday, 8 for Friday and 4 for Saturday. Tradition advises that the sum of your home number should not land on it.
My house number is not good. What can I do?
A house number is not easy to change. Thai articles mention symbolic gestures (a new coin slipped behind the number plate, a blessed plate, a Chinese กันชง plate, lighting the number plate, lucky plants) and above all a clean, bright, well-aired home. These are beliefs: they may reassure you, without guaranteeing anything.
Does a house number really affect luck or health?
There is no scientific evidence that it does. Thai numerology and feng shui are cultural traditions that can help you feel good at home. For health, safety or buying property, rely on professionals: a doctor, a building inspector, a lawyer or your bank.
