How it works

  1. Your Sun sign depends on the position of the Sun on your birthday. Your Moon sign depends on the Moon, which changes sign every two and a half days. Your Rising sign is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the time and place of your birth: it changes about every two hours.

  2. The positions are calculated in your browser with standard astronomical formulas, accurate to within a degree. Astrology is a tradition of reflection, not a science: use it as a mirror, not as a prediction.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need my time of birth?
The Rising sign changes about every two hours, and the Moon changes sign every two and a half days. Without the time, the Sun sign is certain, the Moon sign probable, and the Rising sign cannot be calculated.
What is the difference between Sun, Moon and Rising?
In astrology, the Sun describes your core identity, the Moon your emotional needs and the Rising sign the way you come across and meet the world. Together they give a more nuanced picture than the Sun sign alone.
Is it the same as Thai astrology?
No. Thai and Indian astrology use the sidereal zodiac, offset by about 24 degrees from the tropical zodiac used here: your signs may differ. Neither system has a scientific basis; both are frameworks for reflection.
How accurate is the calculation?
To within about a degree for the Sun and Moon, and a few degrees for the Rising sign, enough for the signs. A planet within a degree of a sign boundary can tip over: check your time of birth.
