Thai love compatibility

Are you a friend pair, a mutual-strength pair or an enemy pair? Enter both birth dates (the time is optional) and the tool reads your relationship the way popular Thai astrology does: through your birth days and the Taksa, through the animals of the Chinese zodiac and through your Thai sidereal signs. You get a transparent score, line by line, your strengths, the points to watch, gentle couple tips and a lovely card to share as a story. Thai love compatibility

How it works

  1. First reading: the birth day (Thai: duang khu tam wan koet). In Thai astrology every weekday is ruled by a numbered planet: Sunday the Sun (1), Monday the Moon (2), Tuesday Mars (3), Wednesday daytime Mercury (4), Thursday Jupiter (5), Friday Venus (6), Saturday Saturn (7) and Wednesday night Rahu (8). Tables of planet pairs (dao khu) describe how two planets get along: friend pairs, khu mit (1-5, 2-4, 3-6, 7-8), who support each other; mutual-strength pairs, khu sompol (1-6, 2-8, 3-5, 4-7), who reinforce each other; element pairs, khu that (1-7, 2-5, 3-8, 4-6), who share the same nature; and enemy pairs, khu sattru (1-3, 2-5, 4-8, 6-7), who rub against each other. We follow the version most often printed in Thai books and newspapers; a few authors move one or two pairs, and the Monday and Thursday pair (2-5) appears there as both an element pair and an enemy pair.

  2. Still with the birth day, the tool reads the Taksa, the circle of the eight planets in the order 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 5, 8, 6. Starting from your own day (boriwan, the entourage), the following days become ayu, det, sri, mula, utsaha, montri and finally kalakini. The role is not mutual: your partner's day can be your sri (grace) while yours is their ayu (longevity), so both directions are counted. The Thai day begins at sunrise: a birth between midnight and 5:59 a.m. counts as the previous day, and Wednesday night runs from 6 p.m. on Wednesday to sunrise on Thursday.

  3. Second reading: the animals of the Chinese zodiac, widely followed in Thailand. The year starts at Lunar New Year, not on 1 January. Signs from the same trine (sa ha, for example Rat, Dragon and Monkey) and the secret friends (lak ha, for example Rat and Ox) are said to be highly complementary. The opposite animal on the wheel is called chong, while the harm (hai) and break (phua) relations point to lighter friction. The tool adds the five-element cycle of the birth year: wood, fire, earth, metal and water, which either feed or restrain one another.

  4. Third reading: the Thai sign (rasi). Thai astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, shifted by about 24 degrees from the signs in Western magazines. The tool calculates where the Sun was at your birth (Thai time, noon if the time is unknown) and subtracts the Lahiri ayanamsa. Two signs of the same element (fire, earth, air, water) understand each other instinctively, and complementary elements (fire with air, earth with water) balance each other. If you were born within a day of a sign change, add your birth time to be sure.

  5. The score starts from a base of 46 points, then each line of the breakdown adds or removes points: for example +18 for a friend pair, +14 for a Chinese trine, -6 for an enemy pair or for the chong opposition. The total is capped at 99, because no couple is perfect, and even the most challenging combination stays above 40: in the tradition, a difficult pair calls for effort, not a breakup. The three small gauges place each reading on a scale from 20% (its most challenging combination) to 100% (its most favourable one), so that no reading ever shows zero.

  6. Sources consulted for the tables: the dao khu definitions published by Sanook Horoscope (the article on the mysterious power of the stars), the Thai Post astrology column on friend and enemy pairs, and the dao khu tables shared by several Thai astrologers' blogs; for the Chinese zodiac, the classic sa ha, lak ha, chong, hai and phua relations. This tool is entertainment inspired by popular beliefs: it predicts nothing and does not replace talking to each other, or seeing a professional if your relationship is going through a hard time.

These tools give general information. They do not replace the advice of a doctor or a qualified professional.

Frequently asked questions

Which birth days are compatible in love according to Thai tradition?
According to the most widely quoted dao khu tables, the friend pairs (khu mit) are Sunday and Thursday, Monday and Wednesday (daytime), Tuesday and Friday, Saturday and Wednesday night. Next come the mutual-strength pairs (khu sompol): Sunday and Friday, Monday and Wednesday night, Tuesday and Thursday, Wednesday and Saturday. The tool adds the Taksa in both directions, which nuances every pair.
What does an enemy pair (khu sattru) mean for a couple? Should we worry?
Enemy pairs (Sunday-Tuesday, Monday-Thursday, Wednesday-Wednesday night, Friday-Saturday) are planets with opposite temperaments. In the tradition this mostly means you react differently, not that the couple is doomed: many happy couples are enemy pairs. The tool removes a few points and suggests practical ways to get in tune.
I was born on a Wednesday: am I Wednesday daytime or Wednesday night?
In Thailand, Wednesday night (planet Rahu) starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and lasts until sunrise on Thursday. Enter your birth time and the tool decides for you. Without a time, it asks you to choose between Wednesday daytime and Wednesday night.
What is a couple's Pi Chong year?
Every Chinese year some animals are said to be chong (opposite the year's animal), hai or phua, or in their own year. If one of you is concerned, Thai-Chinese tradition suggests taking your time with big decisions and making merit (tham bun) together. The tool mentions it gently for the current Chinese year.
Why is my Thai sign different from my Western sign?
Thai astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, aligned with the stars, while Western horoscopes use the tropical zodiac. The gap is about 24 degrees, so many people change sign. For example, the Sun enters Aries (Mesha) around 14 April, at Songkran.
Can I rely on the score to choose a partner or a wedding date?
No. It is a playful reading of popular beliefs, useful to talk about together, not a prediction. For a wedding date, Thai families often consult an astrologer or a monk who studies the full chart. And if your relationship is facing a real difficulty, a couples counsellor or psychologist will help far more than a score.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. Dates, times and names stay in your browser: the calculations run on your phone, with no account and no server. The share link only contains what you choose to share, and the image card is drawn on your device.
