Lucky License Plate Checker

In Thailand, many drivers pick their plate with care. Type yours, or the one you have your eye on: the tool draws it, turns each Thai letter into a number using the most widely used Thai numerology table, adds everything up, checks the kalakini letters for your birth day, reads the digit pairs and suggests better-matched numbers for the same letter series. Everything runs in your browser.

Free, no sign-up, nothing stored

Optional leading digit, Thai letters, then 1 to 4 digits. Thai numerals are accepted.

Tips for choosing a plate

  1. Start with the letters of the series: avoid your kalakini group and, if you can, prefer a sri, det or montri letter.
  2. Then choose the number so the total lands among the very good totals, with favourable pairs.
  3. Compare both methods: a plate can have an average total and a nice root digit, or the other way round.
  4. The most sought-after numbers are auctioned by the Department of Land Transport (เลขประมูล), graphic plates included; the proceeds go to the Road Safety Fund. Rely on its official announcements.
  5. Set yourself a budget: a plate is a matter of taste and belief, with no proven effect.
  6. Whatever the plate, real protection comes from maintenance, seat belts, helmets and careful driving.

This tool presents popular Thai beliefs (Thai numerology and taksa) for cultural interest and fun. It promises no luck, gain or safety, and does not replace vehicle maintenance or careful driving.

Lucky License Plate Checker

How it works

  1. Each Thai consonant has a value from 1 to 9. We use the most common table, the same on lucky-name sites (thaibabyname.com, Dumex) and in insurers' plate guides (Carsome, Sompo): ก ด ถ ท ภ ฤ are 1; ข ช ง บ ป are 2; ฆ ต ฑ ฒ are 3; ค ธ ญ ร ษ are 4; ฉ ฌ ณ น ม ห ฎ ฮ ฬ are 5; จ ล ว อ are 6; ซ ศ ส are 7; ผ ฝ พ ฟ ย are 8; ฏ ฐ are 9. A KTC article uses a variant in which a few letters move group; we follow the majority version.

  2. The main reading adds the letter values, the leading digit (the 1 in 1กข) and the plate number, as in KTC's example: 8กข 4351 gives 8 + 1 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 5 + 1 = 24. The total is read as it is, without reducing it. Its grade (very good, average, unfavourable) follows the Carsome and KTC lists, which are identical, plus 55, 56 and 59, which KTC and Sompo also rank as very good. Totals missing from these lists are read through their root digit.

  3. A second, simpler method looks at the number only: add its digits until one is left (2345 → 14 → 5). Each digit belongs to a planet in Thai astrology: 1 the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Mars, 4 Mercury, 5 Jupiter, 6 Venus, 7 Saturn, 8 Rahu, 9 Ketu. The province is not part of either calculation: none of the sources we checked counts it.

  4. The taksa (ทักษา) links your birth day to the letter groups. The eight planets turn in a fixed order (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, Venus); starting from the planet of your day, each group takes a role: boriwan, ayu, det, sri, mula, utsaha, montri and finally kalakini, the group tradition advises against. Born on a Sunday, your kalakini letters are ศ ษ ส ห ฬ ฮ; Monday, the vowels and อ; Tuesday, ก ข ค ฆ ง; Wednesday daytime, จ ฉ ช ซ ฌ ญ; Wednesday night (from 6 pm), บ ป ผ ฝ พ ฟ ภ ม; Thursday, ด ต ถ ท ธ น; Friday, ย ร ล ว; Saturday, ฎ ฏ ฐ ฑ ฒ ณ. Autospinn and Carsome give the same lists. The kalakini digit is that planet's number (Sunday 6, Monday 1, Tuesday 2, Wednesday 3, Wednesday night 5, Thursday 7, Friday 8, Saturday 4); some sites add a second digit, which we show without counting it.

  5. Neighbouring digit pairs (1234 reads 12, 23, 34) have their own reputation. We use Carsome's lists, very close to Sompo's: pairs of kindness, money, prestige, smooth travel and protection, and on the other side pairs linked to impatience, electrical faults, scratches, repairs or accidents. Some pairs (35, 36, 53, 63…) appear on both sides depending on the table, and the tool says so openly.

  6. The score out of 100 sums up these readings with a fixed scale shown line by line: a base of 60, plus or minus 20 for the total, deductions for each kalakini letter or digit, and a small bonus for sri, det or montri letters and for good pairs. It is there to compare plates with each other, not to predict anything. The number suggestions test all 9,000 four-digit numbers with your letter series and keep the best.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the sum of a Thai license plate?
Turn each letter into a number (ก = 1, ข = 2, ค = 4, ง = 2…), then add those values to the leading digit and the plate number. Example: 1กข 1234 gives 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 14, a total ranked among the very good ones. The tool does this for you and shows every step.
Which letters should I avoid for my birth day?
According to the taksa: Sunday ศ ษ ส ห ฬ ฮ; Monday the vowels and อ; Tuesday ก ข ค ฆ ง; Wednesday daytime จ ฉ ช ซ ฌ ญ; Wednesday night บ ป ผ ฝ พ ฟ ภ ม; Thursday ด ต ถ ท ธ น; Friday ย ร ล ว; Saturday ฎ ฏ ฐ ฑ ฒ ณ. Pick your day in the tool and those letters are highlighted on the plate.
What are the best totals for a license plate?
The most quoted lists rank 4, 5, 6, 9, 14, 15, 19, 23, 24, 32, 36, 40, 41, 42, 44, 45, 46, 50, 51, 54 as very good, often with 55, 56 and 59. Totals seen as unfavourable include 3, 7, 11, 12, 17, 20, 21, 27, 29, 30, 33, 34, 37, 43 and 48. These lists vary slightly from one site to another.
Does the province count?
No. None of the guides we checked includes the province in the calculation: only the leading digit, the letters and the number count. You can still add it so the drawing looks like your real plate.
How can I get a nice plate number?
The Department of Land Transport (กรมการขนส่งทางบก) regularly auctions sought-after numbers, including graphic plates with printed designs. The proceeds go to the Road Safety Fund (กองทุนเพื่อความปลอดภัยในการใช้รถใช้ถนน). Check its official announcements for dates and conditions.
Does a lucky plate protect against accidents?
No. These readings are popular beliefs with no proven effect. A plate you like can give you peace of mind, but safety depends on vehicle maintenance, seat belts, helmets and how you drive.
Why do two methods give different results?
The total-sum method counts the letters, while the number-only method reduces the four digits to one. They look at different things, and Thai sites use one, the other or both. The tool shows both so you can compare.
