Wellness in Korat

นครราชสีมา

Nakhon Ratchasima, better known as Korat, is the large gateway city to Thailand's north-east. Its wellness scene is quieter and more local than in the big tourist centres: we have not found retreat centres aimed at foreign visitors in the city itself, and relaxation tends to happen in temples, in parks and at home rather than in spas aimed at visitors.

Taking care of yourself in Korat

The old walled quarter, ringed by a moat and anchored by the Thao Suranari Monument, holds several working temples where locals come to make merit and sit quietly. Korat also has a link to the Thai forest meditation tradition through Wat Pa Salawan, a Thammayut forest monastery right in the city where the renowned teacher Ajahn Mun is said to have stayed.

Daily life is shaped by the heat: the city averages about 27.7 °C over the year, and April is usually the hottest month. Residents favour early mornings and the hour around sunset for walks and exercise, for example around the lake at Bung Ta Lua. Reiki practitioners and meditation teachers here usually work independently, which is what this directory is for.
